With multiple shows this week, the Houston Grand Opera hits a high note with Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas with Soprano Ana María Martínez and The Pearl Fishers at The Wortham Theater Center. A beloved social and prestigious event, the 31st Annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers will be held on Friday, February 1st. The competition serves as a prominent recruiting opportunity for Houston Grand Opera’s Studio.

Over the Moon

Celebrate the Year of the Pig at Poítin’s Lunar New Year on Friday, February 1st. Guests will enjoy a themed dinner in collaboration with Khoi BBQ and entertainment including a dragon dance against Houston’s impressive skyline. The festivities begin at 5pm and the cost is $70 per person to attend.

The event begins at 6pm and includes a presentation, walk in the woods with the chance to spot the wise and wonderful creatures and light snacks served with beer, wine and hot drinks.

Houston Symphony presents their Wine Dinner & Collector’s Auction, An Evening with Great Composers, on Friday February 8th at The Astorian. The exclusive annual gala supports the Houston Symphony’s education and community engagement initiatives at Jones Hall and in schools, hospitals and other venues throughout the city serving more than 181,000 Houstonians, including 114,000 children, each year.

The Junior League of Houston will host their 71st Annual Charity Ball, Fire & Ice, on February 8th and 9th. The black-tie evening will include dinner, an exciting show and silent auction. The annual event is an integral source of funding for the Junior League’s Community Program and volunteer initiatives. The Junior League of Houston partners with organizations to deliver services and assistance directly to those in need, delivering positive change through the efforts of its highly trained and empowered female volunteers.


Ballet Bash

Houston Ballet’s Ballet Ball returns to the Houston Ballet Center on Saturday, February 9th with a Heroes, Gods, and Stars theme inspired by the world premiere of Sylvia by Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM.

84th Annual River Oaks Garden Club Azalea Trail

Celebrate the arrival of spring in Houston with River Oaks Garden Club’s 84th Annual Azalea Trail, Friday, March 1, Saturday, March 2 and Sunday March 3, 11am – 5pm. The trail opens doors to some of the city’s most impressive residences and gardens, all located within the River Oaks neighborhood: 4 private residences and gardens, plus Bayou Bend, Rienzi, and the River Oaks Garden Club’s Forum of Civics Building. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held on Friday March 1 at 10:30 AM at the front gate of Bayou Bend Gardens on Lazy Lane. The MFAH director Gary Tinterow will cut the ribbon and officially open the Trail. There will be free floral demonstrations open to the public at the Forum of Civics each day: Friday at noon, Saturday 11am and 2pm, and Sunday at noon.

Tickets are $30 for entry into all 7 locations or $10 for a single location. Tickets can be purchased at the Forum of Civics at 2503 Westheimer, at each location, and at retail outlets around Houston. Proceeds from Azalea Trail go to Houston area charities.

Spring into Fashion

The 20th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show will be held on April 25th, 2019 at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown. In celebration of this milestone, we have an exciting program planned including Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman and Designer Jason Wu. As one of the most accomplished American gymnast of all times, and working towards her third Olympics in 2020, Aly is a recent recipient of the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage. Jason Wu will be unveiling signature pieces during our fashion show presented by Elizabeth Anthony.
