Former professional boxer and owner of Savarese Fight Fit gyms, Lou Savarese is passionate about using his craft to help those in need. Savarese is a firm believer that boxing can be practiced by those who have Parkinsons as it improves hand-eye coordination, requires cerebral thinking, and helps with muscle rigidity. Savarese is certified to coach people with Parkinson’s through Rock Steady Boxing, a fitness program designed to aid the quality of life of those diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Savarese Fight Fit is one of the few gyms in the Houston area with this unique certification.

Years of research has shown that the benefits of boxing also directly target some of the most troubling symptoms of Parkinson's including balance, coordination, tremors and physical strength. Boxing is not a cure for Parkinson’s, however, it gives those affected the chance to literally (and figuratively) fight back to become more than just a diagnosis.
