Houston Grand Opera’s Opening Night for Young Professionals (ONYP) Toasts the End of Summer with Pupperas!

Houston Grand Opera’s young professionals group celebrated the end of summer with a unique happy hour event saluting opera and our four-legged friends. More than 65 current and prospective ONYP subscribers gathered at Bungalow Heights last Tuesday, September 10th, to mingle and look ahead to Houston Grand Opera’s 2019-20 season. Partnering with the Houston SPCA, the happy hour introduced their first puppy opera - Pupperas!

Named after opera’s most memorable characters and dressed in “bone-afide” opera costumes, all pups were available for adoption. Guests were also invited to bring their own furry friends to the dog-friendly venue. While sipping on refreshing cocktails, the young professionals were serenaded by HGO’s upcoming mariachi world premiere, El Milagro del Recuerdo star, Cecilia Duarte, accompanied by Blair Salter. There may have been a few divas and divos in the canine crowd, but they all came together to make beautiful (dog) music for a worthy cause. Two dogs and two kittens found their forever home thanks to Pupperas!

As one of the largest young professional arts groups in the country, ONYP is the new generation of opera aficionados. Events are hosted year-round to support HGO and raise awareness about the importance of the performing arts. ONYP subscribers will enjoy tickets to opening night of all seven operas of the 2019-20 season, starting with Rigoletto on Oct. 18.
